Philadelphia Spectrum 'Demolition'

So today, I went to the 'demolition' of the Philadelphia Spectrum and might I say...it was anticlimactic. The Spectrum was a building that housed the 1974 and 1975 Stanley Cup winning 'Broad Street Bullies' Flyers teams, the 1982-1983 NBA Final winning 76ers, The Arena Football Championship winning team, Philadelphia Soul in 2008, WWE Summerslam and King of the Ring in the 1990s, decades of amazing concerts, and even Elvis once left this place. For all of that to happen in the Spectrum, it deserved to be blown up! The first strike of the wrecking ball hit the building at 12:35 and this old girl was going nowhere. The Spectrum stood strong after about six strikes and finally started to crumble on the seventh strike. Now a gapping hole sits in a small portion of the building. The entire place will take four months to fully demolish.
In case anyone cares, I wanted to share my favorite Spectrum memory. Back when I was 6 years old, my Dad took me to my first 76ers game. He somehow managed to get floor seats and we were actually seated in the folding chairs right behind the coaches. One of the coaches in front of me kept swearing and Charles Barkley heard him and walked over to him. Barkley actually made the guy appologize to me because he thought it was wrong the guy was swearing in front of a 6 year old girl. I always thought that was really cool. For the rest of the game I called him 'The Tall Guy'...very original!
I will definently keep you all updated on the progress of the demolition as it goes on. Meanwhile enjoy some of the pictures and videos I took from the ceremony today!

Safe Filming Report for 11-18-10

Well guys, as I expected, filming for Safe last night was pretty cool. I got to the set around 9:30pm and stood around for a while before anything happened. The scene involved a bunch of NYPD cars.
One thing I noticed with action movies is that there is a lot more waiting around as the have to set up squibs (mini explosives used to show gun shots) and they practice many times before they actually shoot. Jason Statham was not on set last night and they were filming a bunch of fake NYPD shooting at the Bellevue hotel. On each take one of the drivers of the cop car would always get killed, I felt bad for him. Anyway, the scenes were pretty cool and I managed to get some good footage of the filming. After each take the crowd would applaud which was pretty funny. The crowd was not really that large considering they were filming right outside of the University of the Arts. I mean the loud explosions were pretty cool. The entire time I was there (about 3 hours) they only filmed about five takes. Like I said before, a lot of set ups. Jason statham was not there last night, but apparently he is returning next week. There was no door at the Bellevue because the cops either shot it out or someone was thrown through it. I managed to get some pictures inside the hotel. I walked into the hotel while the cast and crew were all on their lunch/dinner break and snapped a few pictures of various things inside holding.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my set visit. See you all next time!

Safe Filming for the Next 3 Days on Broad Street

Hey everyone...again!

Good news about the filming for Safe....its going to be EPIC apparently.

According to the number 1 source for all things going on in Philadelphia, HughE Dillion aka Philly Chit Chat posted a lot of good stuff on his blog.

Apparently they are filming scenes tonight at the Bellevue in which Statham is getting thrown through a breakaway window and for the next few nights they are filming car stunt scenes with simulated gun fire....sweet! Broad Street (Center City) will be closed Wednesday thru Friday nights and the public can watch from a safe distance. Filming is going on thru the night and they break for dinner at 12:30am until 2:00am...sorry all, I am probably going to get going around midnight anyway. As I said before I will be there tomorrow night and I will report anything interesting I see. Stay tuned for that!!

If you want to check out PhillyChitChat I highly recommend it...HughE always has the best information and I use his site a lot....see ya later!

Fantasy Fest 2010: My Experience

Hey everyone! Ok I know I said I would do a write up on my experiences at Fantasy Fest and so here it is!

IF YOU PLAN ON VISITING DURING FANTASY FEST YOU CAN ALSO CHECK OUT http://www.seearoomkeywest.com/ THEY HAVE BEEN THE NUMBER 1 PROVIDER OF ROOMS FOR FANTASY FEST FOR OVER 10 YEARS!

I got to key west on October 27 and it was awesome walking out of the plane to 85 degree weather! Despite being extremely tired on the first day I went out with some friends that I know down there on my first night. The first night I was there was Fogartys red night and
basically everyone in the town wears red so I got to use my red eyes again!
I saw a bunch of great costumes as well as people with basically nothing on. I got an amazing body paint job by my friend Jim who likes to Swim Jim actually did the artwork for the official Fantasy Fest poster.... The theme this year was Habitat for Insanity. Anyway, went to sleep around 1am which is rather early for me, but I
was so exhausted from the early morning plane ride.

Day 2 was a longer day, didn't go out much during the actual day. I actually hung out at a tattoo shop and played Tony Hawk on ps2 like all day long! I dressed as Lady Gaga that night an had my friend Jim body paint me again. I met up with a nice guy named Ian and we ended up hanging out a lot. Saw a lot more crazy costumes and even found another Gaga! After getting additional body paint from another friend, Chris, I ended up sitting outside the Southernmost Tattoo and people watching. I saw a guy trying to break into a building convinced it was his hotel. the cops on him and they escorted him to where he was trying to be. He was really smashed. The best costumes of the night were to gagas instead of togas (it was toga night).
Before calling it a night I was hanging out with Ian and a off duty police officer, probably the safest person to hang out with. We saw a fight break out, I got threatened by a girl an the cop ended up calling more cops, good times I went to sleep around 4am that morning or night, whatever.

Day 3... I rode my bike during the day and i managed to get mooned by an entire tour bus which was cool. That night I was dressed as a purple monstery looking thing with crazy eyes. I got body painted again by Jim and people were taking tons of pictures so that's cool. I was with Ian again and he was dressed as a prisoner, well really he wore underwear and a little hat :). I saw one of my other friends, Geo, he is super buff ;) We ended up outside of a gay bar for most of the evening and people watched again... We were joined by a out of drag drag queen who was dressed like zombie Shaggy from Scooby Doo and spent the night quoting the film Mommie Dearest outside a drag and gay bar. I got to bed around 4am again and noticed something weird with my eye...

My eye was actually infected on day 4! Those crazy contacts left me with what I thought was pink eye... Joy! I couldn't go out much because the sun hurt my eye so much, I had to rock the pirate patch
which was cool because it was fantasy fest anyway. I was in a fun wedding that night so I stayed inside and helped Sherrie make cupcakes for the reception I stayed with her and my friend Gary, they were actually going to be the first couple to ever get married during the
parade that night. Their house is haunted so with each batch of cupcakes we made the oven would open by itself to let us know the cupcakes were done, it was freaky. She was really nervous because she was getting married in front of hundreds of people that night. She and I headed over to where the float staging area was around 5 to get ready for the parade. I was dressed as Joan Crawford, but until the sun went down I had to rock a pirate eye patch because of my "pink eye". I was on the last float in the parade, Bad George Sound. We had 8 stripper poles and a live band, it was awesome. After the parade began around 7pm our float finally left the staging area around 9pm. The parade was great, my one eye wouldn't stop watering and I only had one contact in my eye, but It was so worth it! After the groom almost got arrested, yea, we finally got to where the wedding would take place in the middle of the parade. The ceremony took about 5 minutes and went off without a hitch... We all even got our picture on Reuters and it went all over the internet including aol news, yahoo, and even somewhere in austria, so fun! We got back to the staging area around 2am after the cops led our float down a closed street.I was even asked to drive the huge float and I promptly said, um hell no! We had cupcakes and toasted Sherrie and Gary on their unusual yet totally unforgetable wedding. I mean who else exchanges rubber chickens and has the best man bring them their rings in a jello shot? No one. Believe it or not Halloween was rather uneventful as Fantasy Fest was over. Bad George Sound won best band for the third year in a row though. I dressed up as Sookie Stackhouse, so basically normal clothes. I walked around the island with Ian, met some new people and hung out at the pool at their hotel until about 4am again.

The day after Halloween I basically did the tourist thing and tried to visit all of the people I hadn't seen yet. I went aboard the USS Ingham and visited the chief engineer, chip, and snapped some very myspace pictures of myself. That night I ended up outside of el Alamo bar to celebrate their 1 yr anniversary. I ended up with an ice cream cone a funny balloon hat and a coat hanger around my neck, oh Key West. The town was basically totally empty that night. I actually my bike home around 1:30am and I was able to ride in the middle of the busiest street in town. One day the town is jammed, the next empty... That's just how it is down there.

Overall, a great trip... I can't wait until next Fantasy Fest... The theme next year is Aquatic Frolic... I'm totally being the Little Mermaid!
AGAIN, IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE KEY WEST AND WANT TO CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF AT SOME POINT PLEASE VISIT http://www.southernmostresorts.com/ THEY ARE ONE OF THE SPONSORS OF FANTASY FEST AND THEY ALSO DO BEACH WEDDINGS! TRUST ME, A BEACH WEDDING IN KEY WEST IS AMAZING!!!!!

'Safe' Update for Next Week

Hey guys!!! So I was in Florida last week for Fantasy Fest and if you follow me on twitter (phillyfilmgurl)...you would have seen the crazy things I got up to...it was insanely fun!

Anyway, I just wanted to make a quick update and let you all know that 'Safe' with Jason Statham will be filming some night scenes next week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I am probably going to see them filming on Thursday as I found someone to accompany me on my stalker set visit...I'm not about to go alone. Filming will be taking part on Broad Street next week...not exactly sure where, but I figure it is somewhere in Center City, so I might have to drive around a bit until I see signs that say 'Road Closed for Filming' or something.

'Safe' already did some filming last week, on Halloween Sunday of all days... sadly for you and me, I was in Key West...but hey, I was in Florida. Still, I am disappointed I missed the filming as I saw a few videos on youtube and it looked awesome! I believe they filmed a few car chase scenes....too bad I missed out. It seems like the filming dates for the movie are sporatic and although they are filming until December sometime, it does not seem to be everyday.

Oh well guys, have a good week and expect to see some stuff next week!

Filming Update / Key West

Hello everyone!

I got a few updates on stuff for you to read about. I am so rubbish at starting posts...oh well, on to the good stuff!

The indie film, 'The Discoverers' begins filming in the area soon. According to Michael Klein's blog, the film will be shooting in Croydon, Bristol, Newtown, New Hope, and Tyler State Park - plus a day in the city. The movie stars Griffin Dunne (After Hours, Who's That Girl), Cara Buono (The Sopranos, Mad Men), Stuart Margolin (The Rockford Files), Madeleine Martin (Californication), and David Rasche (Sledge Hammer!, Rubicon). The movie is comedy about a dysfunctional family recreating the expedition of Lewis and Clark. You can check out the trailer on the official website HERE

Another film coming to the area which I reported about a long time ago is the new Jason Statham movie entitled 'Safe'...shooting for the film finally is beginning in 3 days on October 24! The movie has been filming in New York City, in fact while I was there, but I did not go to the set at all. 'Safe' will be shooting in the area until about December and hopefully I will get a day to go to set at least once.

In other fun unrelated news, I am going to Key West, Florida next week for Fantasy Fest! I know its not movie/filming related, but it sure is a lot of fun so I think it is something I will have to blog/tweet about. I am not revealing my costumes, yes plural, but they are REVEALING, but conservative in comparison to people being straight up naked, yes naked. I leave on wednesday and I am staying for a week of fun and excitement!

The Lost Boys 3: The Thirst Panel at New York Comic Con

Welcome to the final post for the New York Comic Con stuff that I am writing. There's a sentence right there!

Today I am discussing the panel for the Lost Boys 3: The Thirst panel with the man, the myth, the legend, Corey Feldman. The panel for the film was in one of the smaller rooms at it was at 10:45 in the morning, so naturally it was not too crowded which was nice. Feldman talked a lot about the new film which just came out on DVD and BluRay on Tuesday October 12....and yes I bought it. He also talked about other things like keeping in touch with previous costars and the tragic loss of Corey Haim.
The room itself was only about half filled...I sat in the front row, just as I did for the Vampire Diaries panel which was awesome. The panel started off with the opening scene for the new film in which Feldman's character Edgar Frog wakes up from a dream involving how his brother, Alan, played by Jamison Newlander, turned into a vampire. Already the film was looking much better than the second film, which Feldman himself said was horrible. Other clips of the ffilm were shown as well as some informative commentary by Feldman himself. When talking about the blood they get covered in numerous times for the film, Feldman said that they are usually creaking back to their trailers. When the 'blood' dries, it is almost impossible to get off of their bodies and is all together disgusting. Fun fact: the blood in just about every film is actually sugar!
Feldman also talked a lot about his band, Truth Movement. This month Feldman and his band will be doing four shows around the Los Angeles area which will be basically five hour concerts. First fans will have the chance to watch the original Lost Boys film from 1987 with Feldman and his band, then there will be a short Q+A followed by a full concert by Truth Movement. All of the concerts are taking place on the west coast, so we in Philadelphia will not have the chance to see this, sadly. Feldman was also asked if he still sees some of his former costars. He said that he had recently seen Jerry O'Connell at an event and they said hi to each other. He also said that he saw Heather Graham recently as well.

The thing I really wanted to go to the panel for was to see if Feldman talked about Haim at all. He mentioned a nice little story about him which can be seen in the video below. Feldman also made it a point to mention that Haim died on heart failure and not drug use. The panel was really fun to attend and Feldman stated that there would be more films in the franchise as long a the fans demanded them. One other really cool thing is that Feldman said that every single comment on his website, he reads them personally...that is really cool I think.

Check out the video below to see the footage I took of Corey Feldman at the panel!

Ok guys thats all I got for you about New York Comic Con 2010....it is a really fun event and I encourage everyone to check it out next year. If you like movies, celebrities, games, and comics...then go and you will not forget the time you have!!!

Vampire Diaries Panel at New York Comic Con 2010

Hey there again! Welcome back for Day 4 of my New York Comic Con recap!

Today I am going to be discussing all the fun I had at the panel for the CW television show, The Vampire Diaries, which I LOVE! Whether you are a fan of the show or not feel free to read about the panel here....and hey, if the following recap makes you want to check out the show you can do so on the official website HERE and find out more about the actors on the show's imdb page HERE...or if you really want to be cool like me, just watch the show on the CW every Thursday at 8/7c.

Ok so I said yesterday, I arrived to the IGN theater a bit early and caught the end of the NIKITA panel (also on the CW right after the Vampire Diaries on Thursdays at 9/8c). A lot of fans showed up for the panel despite the fact that they have only aired about 6 episodes. Unfortunately, I do not watch the show, so basically all I got from the panel is that the beautiful Maggie Q does not consider herself a expert at martial artist, the fights on the show will be getting better, it also stars the guy from a Walk to Remember, and they fight a lot....yes I just butchered the entire show, sorry. After the end of the Nikita panel, it was time for The Vampire Diaries to take the stage!! They started about 20 minutes late which was really unfortunate, but it was a very informative panel. The panel was moderated by Carina Adly MacKenzie check her site out HERE [side note: Carina even put my videos on her blog! thanks for that!] Carina, you did a wonderful job at getting information and also trying to get information! Two of the producers, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, as well as four of the stars, Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan), Sara Canning (Jenna Sommers), Katerina Graham (Bonnie Bennett), and Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert). Sara Canning and Katherina Graham were both so beautiful, Steven McQueen is really funny and adorable, and Zach Roering was adorable and texting on his phone :) Executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec teased so many things for the events to come on the show. They talked about the future of Katherine stating that the worst of Katherine is yet to come and she has not even begun to wreak havoc in the town of Mystic Falls. Williamson also stated about Katherine, she is very fun to have around, until she is not around anymore; possibly hinting the death of Katherine? If that is possible. In the episode that airs tonight, Katherine will be going super super game changer, according to Julie Plec. Although the lovely Nina Dobrev was not around, Williamson said that filming the Elena/Katherine scenes are tough and can take up a full day of shooting because it takes about 2 hours in makeup for Dobrev to get each look completed. They also said that they like keeping Katherine in the show as little as possible in order to maintain the mystique of the character and they do not want to spoil the magic by showing her too much on screen. In episode 9, the show travels back to 1492 to discover why Katherine is the way she is, so look forward to that. Jenna will also meet Katherine in one of the upcoming episodes so that should be fun! Regarding future deaths on the show, the producers teased that none of the people on the panel were safe and they were scared for some of them. So Bonnie, Matt, Jenna, or Jeremy might have some troubles coming their way in the future...and the actors might need to start looking for new jobs. Plec also said that they were very lucky Zach in particular was there with them that day.
When discussing certain characters that fans wanted to see on the show longer (Lexi and Anna) the producers stated who is to say that she is not coming back to the shows...and when an audience member shouted 'flashbacks' they nodded yes. So it is semi official that Lexi and Anna will be returning to the show in some flashback scenes. Even David Anders character might return. Williamson stated that he loved working with the man and because he has suc a pivotal role in the series (being Elena's father) he will at some point return.
Jeremy Gilbert is going to start stepping up in the next few episodes as well. As shown in the teaser for episodes 6 and 7, we see Jeremy clearing siding with the Salvatore brothers and with Alaric in an effort to defeat Katherine. Steven McQueen stated that he does not know why he would like to side with a guy that broke his neck, but he does anyway. McQueen also stated that he is going to possibly get closer to Tyler and feels like he has an upper hand knowing that Tyler is a werewolf, or rather has potential to be one. Fans just hope that Jeremy finally gets a love interest who stays around longer than six episodes without dying. Bonnie Bennett is also getting a love interest on the show, but rather than introduce a new character, she is going to be romantically involved with someone that she already knows, fans were yelling 'Damon' at this point. Bonnie will also be in a love traingle of sorts, the two interests are yet to be revealed. If it is a vampire, Bonnie is also 'genetically programmed' in a way to dislike and not trust vampires which is why she always seems so distant from their 'vampire politics'.
Not even the relationship of the show's most popular characters will be stable for much longer. Stefan was seen in the last episode drinking blood from Elena which Plec stated was beautiful and disgusting at the same time, but their relationship might get a bit bumpy in the future. All of the psychological things Katherine is doing to the pair begins to wear on their relationship and it will begin to crack. Williamson stated that although these two characters are 'soul mates' they need to find their souls first, mates will come later.

Check out below for the videos I took at the panel!!

New York Comic Con 2010 Day 3 Report

Well day 3 was also known as the first night I got a good full night of sleep. I went to bed and woke up around 8am, got breakfast, packed, and we checkout out. On the final day of the convention I was dressed as Ramon Flowers from the comic book/movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I enjoyed my blue hair especially when I was checking out at the front desk :)
We walked over to the Convention Center for the last time and arrived around 10:00am. We got in before it actually opened and there was actually walking room on the main room floor! But then we realized only press and exhibitors were allowed in at that point. It did get progressively more crowded throughout the day, but no where near as insane as Saturday.

The boys were really excited to go to their panels so I decided to walk on the floor for a bit before heading down to the IGN theater for the Vampire Diaries panel....love that show! I arrived to the panel early and walked in on the middle of the Nikita panel which was cool because Maggie Q, Shane West, Lyndsy Fonseca, and Craig Silverstein were all there. I am not a fan of the show but it was fun to watch. After that I hung around for the Vampire Diaries panel, more on that tomorrow.

After the panel I walked around the floor one more time while I waited for the boys to get out of their panels. A lot of people liked my Ramona costume...many people were saying 'Hi Ramona' or 'Excuse me Ramona'...so that was fun. I got some pictures with other Scott Pilgrim characters...

There were a lot of other Ramona Flowers characters...props to the girl with the red wig because she was actually going around on roller blades!....

I even found some more Doctor Who people...one girl even had the same outfit that I was wearing on Saturday, but hers was not as authentic as mine, sorry...wow I sound like a meanie.

The boys were planning on going to the panel for the Making of The Empire Strikes Back but decided against it because it was way too packed. We ended up leaving the Javitz Center around 2pm and headed back to Philly.
Overall, the 2010 New York Comic Con was awesome to say the least. People were all really friendly and always happy to discuss their favorite comic/movie/show/games. It is always a great place to meet up with fellow geeks and nerds. New York Comic Con is just a place that people can be their geeky/nerdy selves and everyone will totally understand. If you were not able to make it this year, start planning for next year because the con returns October 14, 2011!
